F*%k. I think I just promised to treat my team to a Caribbean holiday.
The Bahamas. Bright white sandy beaches. Crystal clear aquamarine seas. Sun-kissed resorts. Palm trees. Sounds pretty good right now.
It all started so innocently. I’d called the Apptaura team together for our monthly meeting and was armed with good news.
We signed up a chunk of new business. Our sales pipeline was looking strong and despite having set ourselves a challenging revenue goal at the beginning of the year we looked on target to smash through our original predictions.
The team were stoked. Grins, proud faces, a few whoops.
Then one of the team piped up. “What happens if we hit £XXX in revenue?”
I love a stretch target
The year had gone really well so far, but I needed to establish some realistic expectations. We’re entering the time of year where things tend to go a bit quiet as decision makers head off on their holidays. We’re only dealing with projections and have to be realistic that even a salesguru like me won’t be able to convert all our leads to signed contracts. Who knows what the next 6 months will hold.
It didn’t dampen the enthusiasm. The team were pumped up. They believed.
And that’s when the fateful words left my lips.
“If we hit that, I’ll fly us all out to the Bahamas for a holiday”
So that’s it. I’ve promised to fly the whole Apptaura crew out to the Bahamas… if we hit the new stretch goal. Which would mean nearly doubling our projected revenue target. And frankly, if we manage that we deserve a blow out. So if my accountant is reading this… sorry/not sorry.
We believe we can do it. The hard work starts now.
